Your Negotiated Contract
Does your heart tell you that you should oblige your Superintendent,
the Governor and your fellow taxpayers by considering a 1/2 year pay
freeze?
Well, consider this...
Your MTEA just negotiated a 3 year contract in the midst of a state
financial crisis. Just last year municipal employees were
furloughed days; people throughout the state were being laid off
from their jobs. All of these factors were part of our
negotiations process. Our salary increases were determined based upon
compromises we made to our health benefits. As you may recall,
we were without a contract until January. Now, only 3 months
later we are asked to consider making concessions.
Understand that freezing your salary does not guarantee the existing
teachers will be able to keep their jobs.
